Charles was born in 1965 in Yorkshire. After leaving Leeds University with a Drama and Public Media degree in 1986, Charles was fortunate to gain professional work in the following:
- Various extra roles in Yorkshire TV and ITV productions.
- Performed in comedy venues in the North of England as part of a two-person comedy group, “Odd Men In” for 9 months.
- Two 4-month national tours of “Rebecca” by Du Maurier in 1992 and 1993, E&B Productions as various roles and understudy for Maximillian.
- Six 6-weekly cycles of the “News Revue” - long running topical music and satire show at the Canal Café Theatre, Little Venice, London, between 1993 and 1994.
- “The Return of Martin Guerre”, Hampstead Little Theatre, London, May to June 1993. Father Dominique.
- “Cinderella”, Birmingham Hippodrome – December 1995 to February 1996, Prince of India and other roles.
In 1998, Charles retrained in Law and qualified in 2001 as a Solicitor. He practiced law with a variety of public bodies until 2022 and retired.
Charles returned to semi-professional stage acting in 2009, playing:
- Title role of “Macbeth”, Hillbark Players 2009
- Adam in “Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me”, national tour , Fissiparous Theatre, 2012
- Antonio the Merchant, Merchant of Venice, Hillbark Players, 2013
- Jekyll & Hyde in Jekyll & Hyde, national tour, Fissiparous Theatre, 2014
- Claudius, “Hamlet”, Hillbark Players, 2017
- Caliban, “The Tempest”, Hillbark, 2022
- Julius Caesar in “Julius Caesar”, Hillbark, 2023
Charles has now turned his focus to appearing in film. He is currently preparing for his next film role to be shot in March 2025.
